Padmashalis are generally found in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Orissa. They are traditionally cotton weavers and silk fabric makers. Even though the people are scattered across many states, they all have a common mother tongue, i.e., Telugu. In addition, they follow similar rituals to bind the bride and groom in holy matrimony. Many rituals in a Padmashali Wedding are similar to Brahmin rites. Padmashali people believe in astrological consultations before fixing a marriage.
