Part of a south Indian social group, the Vanniyar people primarily live in the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. Their mother tongue is Tamil however according to the place they live in, the people also converse in Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam. The name of the community is derived from the Tamil word Vanni meaning fire as well as strength. Marriages of the people are mostly conducted among the Padayatchi, Reddiar, Naicker, Palli and various others castes belonging to it. They are reckoned for carrying out matrimony traditionally and as per the rituals.
