In earlier times, the title of Nadar in Tamil was used for those who ruled the land and counted among the prominent castes in Tamil Nadu. The Nadar People are supposedly the entrepreneurial caste of South India and constitute about 12% population of Tamil Nadu. A powerful community, many Nadars are well off politically as well as financially. They follow at large Hinduism, Christianity and Ayyavazhi (another Hindu sect in South India). Therefore, Nadar Matrimony has varying rituals. However one thing is common, the marriage is a scared institution kept in high regard throughout the community.
