Lingayat is a sect of the Hindu religion found in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Gujarat. As per Lingayats theirs is an independent religion in India. Commonly known as Lingayats or Veera shaivas these people worship Lord Shiva. The people follow five codes of conduct- Panch?ch?ras, eight shields- Asht?varana and Shatsthala - the idea of six levels of accomplishment to be attained by the devotee. Lingayat Matrimony consists of worshiping Lord Shiva and conducting rituals as described by the priest. Once the rituals are complete and all ceremonies are done, the bride and groom are believed to have become husband and wife for the next seven births.
